Sustainable Illawarra Superchat > Vinegar Flies

Hi. We have started composting at our work. We use the Bio Bin with biodegradeable bags to collect the food waste inside and transfer it to an Aerobin outside. The problem we have is lots of annoying vinegar flies inside. As the Bio bins are at the coffee making sink areas, they really annoy people. I have moved the bins to the floor, but then people tend to forget about them. I have also started emptying the bio bins more regularly. I don't want to turn other staff off composting. I have sent emails about the viengar flies being harmless, as eveyone thinks they are fruit flies. Any ideas to keep vinegar flies at bay and relieve staff concerns? Thanks in advance.

They love bananas. Are you composting a lot of banana peels? That might be part of your problem.

I have the same problems as Natasha. That is interesting with the banana peels, but the worms do also love them the most in our worm farm. Maybe these have to go straight in there then.

Does anybody know where in the Northern Illawarra I can get the 8l BioFilm bags for the small kitchen compost collecting unit?
